Party Lines
I wanted to take a few moments to jot down sites and facts to help in the quest to learn about our government. It’s important to educate ourselves on the main points of each party and their platform. I believe in this arena intelligence is knowing your “opponent” better than he knows himself.
(in alphabetical order)
- American Independent Party = www.aipca.org
- Democratic National Committee = www.dnc.org
- Republican National Committee – www.rnc.org
Why an elephant and a donkey for the Republican and Democratic parties?
- According to RNC history, a satirist was poking fun at the two parties and created the two images – they stuck.
Conservative or Liberal?
I had a professor break out the two belief systems and I found a similar example on www.studentnewsdaily.com…
- Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.
- Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve people’s problems.
Remember – educate yourself and put yourself in the other guy’s shoes for a bit. Each party and belief system has its own redeeming qualities. It’s good to know what you believe and why you believe it.
